Jeff Moore

President

As a third-generation Calgarian Jeff spent most of his adult life traveling back and forth from the city to climb.  He and his family to the Bow Valley in 2015.  Climbing in many parts of North America, Australia, and Fontainebleau, Jeff is truly grateful for the ability to climb in such a range of temperatures in the Bow Valley. From sunny south-facing cliffs to shady cool canyons, the conditions are always perfect somewhere in the Valley.

Growing up in the Bow Valley I started climbing and competing inside, eventually, I fell in love with the climbing at the many crags and walls in the valley. I love sharing my climbing passion while working at local climbing gyms. I hope to help maintain access to our beautiful crags through my contributions to the Bow Valley Climbers Access Society.

Al Black

Secretary/Treasurer

Born in Calgary, and living in Canmore, Al Black has been climbing long enough in the Bow Valley to appreciate the amazing changes in climbing over the years.  Al has a long-standing interest in climbing access issues and has served in a variety of roles with various access organizations including the ACC, ACMG, and the Climbers Access Society of Alberta.   He sees this as a way of saying thank you for the work others have already done, and a way of contributing to the community going forward.

I have spent much of the last 30 years playing in the mountains, primarily near my home in Canmore. This interest in mountain landscapes led me to a career first as a geologist, and now as a mountain guide. My primary passion is rock climbing and I have traveled widely in pursuit of vertical adventure. I have climbed in some of the most famous climbing destinations in the world, but I still get excited to explore the local cliffs in the bow valley where the remoteness and sometimes dubious rock quality keep the experience adventurous and relatively un-crowded. I'm excited to be involved with BVCAS to help preserve access to the great climbing we have in the Bow Valley.

I had the privilege to do my very first outdoor climb back in 1985 and fell in love with the landscape and amazing topography of the Bow Valley. I pursued graduate studies in outdoor education, was a mountain operations instructor with the Canadian military, and became an ACMG member. I’ve been fortunate enough to have climbed throughout the Americas and Europe and have had a chance to see how different regions are managed and conserved. Over the years I feel I’ve progressed from being an adventurer to route builder to a steward of wild areas. Being part of the Bow Valley Climbers Access Society is an opportunity to give back to the local climbing community to make sure future generations continue to be able to enjoy the activity I love so much.

Sam calls Canmore home, and lives by the family motto, “Live first, work second, love whatever you are doing and give back when you can”. She finds life more fulfilling by embracing the day-to-day movement with good people, getting outside doing whichever activity, at whichever try-hard level she feels like going at! She will never say no to a bonfire or sitting down by a river.

Born in Truckee California, Allene had Donner Summit as her backyard. Although she got out once in a while and loved it, it wasn't until moving to the Bow Valley to dive into climbing. Passionate about the outdoors, Allene wants to ensure access to all these beautiful places endures.
